Didier Drogba defends Chelsea flop, reveals why he should not be blamed for his country's exit from the World Cup.

The Chelsea flop has come under mass criticism from both the Chelsea and Belgian fanbase for his contributions in making his home country not to progress to the Round of 16 of the world cup.

Didier Drogba has leapt to Romelu Lukaku's defense following his lacklustre performance against Croatia that led to his home country's exit from the FIFA World Cup.

Lukaku had missed several crucial chances that would have secured a spot in the last 16 for Belgium and had shouldered all of the blame. After the full time whistle was blown, he was seen in a flood of tears while being consoled by Assistant coach, Thierry Henry.

To fuel his disappointment, the Chelsea Loanee had reportedly broken a glass in the dugout. But his former teammate and idol, Didier Drogba has come to his rescue. The Chelsea Legend has defended Lukaku while revealing why he should not be blamed for Belgium's defeat:

“We all did (feel sorry for Romelu Lukaku), but we can’t put the blame on someone who has been injured the last two months, he comes on for 30 minutes and you want him to win the game,” Drogba told the BBC.

“As a striker, he should’ve been a bit more on his toes, but it is very difficult to blame him for this.”

Drogba added: “I think it is difficult. The defender is in front of you and the goalkeeper, this is his right foot, the way his body is pointing towards goal it is difficult to turn, twist and score. It is difficult.

“I think he is frustrated not only because he missed the goals but the spirit of this team during the tournament.

“The talks, the fights between players, this is what he is frustrated about more than the goals he missed, I think.”
