Chelsea look to sign highly rated Serie A star as Reece James backup after agent visit London to hold talks.

 The Blues could sign the Serie A star after failing to land him in the just concluded January transfer window.

Per reports, Chelsea will look to sign Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan as Reece James' backup. 

According to recent reports on Gazetta dello sport his agent was in London to complete a possible move to the Premier League and Chelsea. 

However – a deal did not materialise and he stayed put – but reports have claimed that Chelsea will reignite their interest in the player at the end of the current season.

Reece James is one player who is important to Chelsea, but has recently suffered injury crisis. Although he has returned, the Blues' have not always gotten a better backup in his position during his absence hence the Blues' interest in Denzel Dumfries.

Amid all the speculation and the rumours – reporter Iomie Stanley thinks signing Dumfries as a back up for Reece James is not a bad idea. He told ICCFootballNews: ‘Chelsea do not need to splash the cash to sign a defender that will replace Reece James – just provide back-up.

‘The Dutchman is a starter – he is a player that will want to play every-game and that could cause issues.

‘James is one of the best wingbacks in the game, so Chelsea. should be looking to sign a player that will provide him good competition – be a good back-up but also be ready to sit on the bench and be happy.

‘There is no harm in having two quality wingbacks in the squad – but with both of them eager to play – Dumfries would be a very good signing if he is prepared to wait for his chances."
